It's a great question. The better my output, the greater my readership is on Substack. Most importantly, my subscribers chose me specifically (not the New Yorker or Granta or Fantasy & Science Fiction) so I want to honor that since it feels very special to know that 283 people chose to read something I wrote. Or that one person opened my piece 14 times. Also, as an older writer I don't have months or years to wait on submissions.
I remember this one!
This is so good. It made me curious, not being a Substack writer, how do you choose whether publish pieces here and elsewhere?
